CARDINAL TURKSON RESIGNS AFTER THE END OF HIS 5 YEAR TERM AS HEAD OF PROMOTING INTEGRAL HUMAN DEVELOPMENT His Holiness Pope Francis accepted the resignation of His Eminence Peter Apiah Cardinal Turkson as the Prefect of the Dicastery of Promoting Integral Human Development after the prelate served his 5 year term.Cardinal Turkson, served as Archbishop of Cape Coast, Ghana from 1993 to 2009 and President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace from 2009 to 2016 was appointed to head the newly erected dicastery the housed suppressed councils of justice and peace and office of migrants and refugees amongst others. Following the resignation of Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah as prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship in February, Turkson was the only African leading a Vatican department. It is believed to be the first time since 1977 that the Vatican has had no African leaders among the heads of its dicasteries. Cardinal Turkson visited Botswana in July 2019 where he led prayers for the 2019 General Elections, facilitated a workshop for parliamentary and council wards candidates among others.
